FAQ

How many status effects are in Minecraft?
34 in current Java Edition — that's the exact list the hidden How Did We Get Here advancement checks. A Furious Cocktail covers the 17 potion-brewable subset.
How do you remove status effects in Minecraft?
Drink a bucket of milk — it clears every effect instantly, good and bad. That's why raiders and wither fights carry milk. Honey bottles remove only poison.
What is the rarest status effect?
Hero of the Village (defeat a raid), Raid Omen, and Trial Omen are the hardest to trigger intentionally. Levitation (shulker hit) and Darkness (warden/sculk shrieker) are rare too — you have to go looking.

How many status effects are there?

34 in current Java Edition — confirmed by the hidden advancement How Did We Get Here?, which requires all 34 at once. The potion-brewable subset is 17, tracked by A Furious Cocktail. The tables below cover all 34.

Where effects come from

  • Brewing — 17 effects via the brewing stand chains
  • Beacons — Speed, Haste, Resistance, Jump Boost, Strength (+ Regen at tier 4)
  • Items — totem of undying grants Regeneration + Absorption + Fire Resistance on death-save; enchanted gapples grant the same plus Resistance
  • Mobs — shulkers (levitation), wardens and shriekers (darkness), elder guardians (mining fatigue), dolphins (grace)
  • Milk — clears everything; honey clears only poison

The effect registry also holds Instant Health, Instant Damage, Saturation, Health Boost, Luck, and Bad Luck — they have no duration (or aren’t survival-obtainable), so the advancement ignores them.
