Minecraft Dappled Forest Biome: Poplar Trees & Camps

What is the dappled forest?

The dappled forest is the newest Overworld biome, added in the Wilderness Bound drop on September 15, 2026 (Java 26.3 / Bedrock 26.50, current Bedrock 26.52). It’s themed around light filtering through a dense canopy — the forest floor sits under shifting patches of sun and shade.

It was the headline feature of the third 2026 game drop, and the first new Overworld surface biome since the pale garden.

What generates in a dappled forest?

• Poplar trees — a new tree species with a full wood set: logs, planks, stairs, slabs, doors, fences, signs, and boats
• Shelf mushrooms — decorative fungi that grow attached to poplar trunks
• Abandoned camps — new structures that generate inside the biome: tents, fire pits, and supply chests left behind by earlier travellers. They’re free starter shelter and early loot
• Wool & concrete stairs/slabs tie-in — the same drop added stair and slab variants for every wool and concrete color, which pair naturally with campsite builds

How do you find a dappled forest?

1. /locate biome dappled_forest — instant coordinates on Java and Bedrock; then teleport or walk
2. Explore temperate bands — it generates in the same climate zone as regular forests and birch forests
3. New worlds vs old worlds — it only generates in newly explored chunks; existing saves get it in unexplored areas

Is it worth building in?

Yes — the canopy lighting makes it one of the prettiest build sites added in years, and abandoned camps double as readymade outposts. Poplar planks are a warm pale wood that fills the gap between birch and oak tones, and the biome’s mob roster is standard temperate forest — no unusual dangers.
